ASP.NET Core is built on .NET Core, which is a cross-platform version of the .NET Framework without the Windows-specific application programming interfaces (APIs).

Useful changes include a new meta-package system, which simplifies the management of NuGet packages, a new configuration system for ASP.NET Core, and support for Entity Framework Core 2.
